June 18, 2025 — Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) has officially been established, marking a major strategic shift as the company takes direct control of its operations from Hyundai Motor Company.

The newly formed HMY will spearhead local production and distribution, with plans to roll out three new SUV and MPV models tailored to Malaysian and regional markets. Production is set to begin in Q3 2025 at the Inokom plant in Kulim, Kedah.

Focusing on both internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid vehicles, Hyundai aims to balance innovation with practicality. Notably, up to 30% of local production will be earmarked for export to ASEAN countries by 2026, reflecting Hyundai’s confidence in Malaysia as a regional manufacturing hub.

This move aligns Hyundai with other global OEMs such as Honda Malaysia and Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, promising increased competition and greater choice for Malaysian consumers.

Hyundai’s direct entry signals a strong commitment to the Malaysian market, with expectations of a robust and modern product lineup in the near future.
