MG Motor Malaysia has officially launched the all-new S5 EV, a compact electric crossover aimed squarely at the urban EV market. The launch, held just weeks after the vehicle’s initial teasers at Malaysia Auto Show (MAS) 2025, drew attention from media, dealers, and tech-savvy car buyers eager to explore the growing number of sub-RM150K EV options.

Priced at approximately RM140,000, the MG S5 EV enters the scene with a 400 km claimed driving range (NEDC/CLTC estimate), positioning it as one of the most competitively priced electric crossovers in its segment. It features a panoramic sunroof, digital cockpit, and Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)—making it not only affordable but also well-equipped for modern urban mobility needs.

The timing of the launch is particularly strategic. With Malaysia’s EV tax exemption scheme set to expire at the end of 2025, MG aims to capture the growing wave of buyers planning to switch to electric before the incentives wind down. The government’s tax breaks—covering import duties and excise duties for fully imported EVs—have been instrumental in driving EV adoption in recent years.

A spokesperson from MG Motor Malaysia noted: “The S5 EV is designed for the next generation of drivers—smart, connected, and conscious of both performance and sustainability. We believe this car offers unbeatable value in its class.”

The MG S5 EV will compete directly with models like the BYD Atto 3, Chery Omoda E5, and Hyundai Kona Electric, all of which are vying for a slice of Malaysia’s increasingly competitive compact EV segment.

Test drives and deliveries are expected to begin in early Q3 2025, with bookings now open nationwide.
