Malaysia’s automotive market continues its upward trajectory, with vehicle sales surging to 68,007 units in May 2025, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA). This marks a 12.4% increase compared to April’s 60,527 units, reflecting robust consumer confidence and rising demand — especially in the electric vehicle (EV) segment.

The Tesla Model Y emerged as Malaysia’s top-selling EV, overtaking the Proton eMas 7, and highlighting a growing shift toward cleaner mobility solutions among local buyers.

Despite May’s strong performance, the MAA forecasts a potential slowdown in June 2025, primarily due to plant closures and shorter working days during the Hari Raya Aidiladha holiday period.

As Malaysia’s EV infrastructure expands and more models enter the market, the automotive industry is poised for continued transformation through the second half of the year.
