- The Hyundai Ioniq 3 has been spied ahead of an April debut.
- Electric hatch sports aerodynamic styling and pixelated lights.
- Drivers can expect two batteries and a front-mounted motor.
The Hyundai Ioniq 3 will celebrate its global debut in April and the automaker is wrapping up cold weather testing. However, things aren’t done yet as spy photographers snapped a heavily camouflaged prototype in Europe.
Previewed by the Three concept, the production model is a small hatchback that loosely recalls the Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60. The latter instantly springs to mind as the car has split lighting units with a pixelated design. That being said, the front end will likely follow in the footsteps of the Ioniq 9.

Elsewhere, we can see a prominent sensor that is flanked by active air intakes. Designers also gave the car aerodynamically optimized wheels, an upward sweeping beltline, and a rakish roof.

Continuing out back, we can see a liftgate that echoes the one found on the ill-fated Pontiac Aztek. It’s angular rear window meets a spoiler, before transitioning into a vertical section that presumably houses more glass.
They’re joined by pixelated taillights that are connected by an illuminated bar. We can also see a curvaceous bumper and horizontal reflectors.
A Minimalist Interior With A New Infotainment System

Spy photographers didn’t snap interior pictures this time around, but previous images have shown the car will have a slender digital instrument cluster and a Pleos infotainment system. The latter is based on Android Automotive OS and features a smartphone-like interface that promises “unique, customizable, and user-friendly features.”
Besides the freestanding display, there are rectangular air vents and dedicated climate controls. Designers also gave the car a chunky steering wheel and metallic accents.
The Ioniq 3 is a European-focused model and will likely be closely related to the Kia EV3 and EV4. Both are based on the E-GMP platform and feature a choice of 58.3 or 81.4 kWh battery packs. They power a front-mounted motor producing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 209 lb-ft (283 Nm) of torque.
