• The redesigned Hyundai Tucson has ditched its bulky disguise.
  • Sporting a streamlined design, the model arrives later this year.
  • Expected to offer hybrid and PHEV options as well as an N variant.

Spy photographers have caught the 2027 Hyundai Tucson on multiple occasions, but it’s always been covered by a bulky black disguise. That’s changing today as a prototype was recently spotted without heavy cladding.

This gives us our best look yet at the redesigned model, which shares some cues with last year’s Crater concept. That being said, the production crossover is notably less aggressive and features a completely different front end.

The model appears to have a fully enclosed grille (or flush surface), which is flanked by angular daytime running lights that flow into large headlights. They’re joined by a mid-mounted intake as well as a wide lower opening. The latter’s horizontal bars angle up near the center, adding a splash of flair.

Moving further back, we can see a clamshell hood and a relatively flat beltline. Those aren’t the only styling changes as the flamboyant bodywork gives way to streamlined sheet metal and flush-mounted door handles. Designers also gave the crossover miles of front overhang as well as heavily stylized fender flares, which are hidden behind black and white camouflage.

The rear end doesn’t reveal much, but the claw-like taillights have been replaced by large vertical units that sit at the outside edges. The license plate recess has also been moved from the liftgate to the bumper.

Hyundai is keeping details under wraps, but the redesigned Tucson is expected to debut later this year with a new hybrid powertrain. We can also expect a significantly improved plug-in hybrid variant as well as a possible N model.

The latter is the most interesting of the bunch and is rumored to have a next-generation 1.6-liter turbo engine as well as a rear e-axle. This setup would give the Tucson N all-wheel drive as well as a rumored output of around 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS).
