- Ferrari is putting the finishing touches on the SF90 Stradale successor.
- A prototype was recently spied with an updated, but familiar design.
- The car will likely have a revamped plug-in hybrid system with more than 1,000 hp.
The Ferrari SF90 Stradale sailed off into the sunset nearly a year ago, but it’s not entirely dead. Quite the opposite as the company is working on an updated version, which is known as the F173M.
A prototype was recently spied undergoing testing and it suggests the car will have an evolutionary design. While the final look is hard to decipher thanks to boxy camouflage, we can see a new front fascia with a rectangular central intake. It’s joined by a prominent splitter, which features a more harmonious design.

Additional details are hard to make out, but it appears the car will retain a protruding nose. However, we can expect it to be flanked by new headlights.
The profile appears to largely carryover, while the rear end features modest updates. Key among them is a revised fascia with new vents between the exhaust tips. We can also get a glimpse at new taillights, although these could simply be temporary units.

Spy photographers didn’t get a look inside, but we can expect a new steering wheel and revised switchgear. They could be joined by a revamped dashboard and an updated digital instrument cluster.
Motivation will be provided by an updated plug-in hybrid powertrain. In the SF90, it consisted of a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, three electric motors, and a 7.9 kWh battery pack. The setup allowed the car to produce a combined output of 986 hp (736 kW / 1,000 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. Thanks to those impressive numbers, the coupe could accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 2.5 seconds, hit a top speed of 211 mph (340 km/h), and travel 16 miles (25 km) on electricity alone.
The SF90 successor will undoubtedly improve on those figures, although by how much is anyone’s guess.
