- Spies have snapped the 2026 A6 L undergoing testing in Germany.
- The long-wheelbase model is based on the redesigned sedan.
- Gas model follows the electric A6L e-tron, which grew by 5.2 inches.
The current Audi A8 is nearly a decade old, but the brand has finally begun testing a new large sedan. Unfortunately, it’s the A6 L that will be limited to China.
Recently spied undergoing testing on the Nürburgring, the 2026 A6 L follows in the footsteps of the regular model but rides on an extended wheelbase.
Designers did a good job incorporating the extra length as the only thing that really stands out are longer rear doors. However, it appears the sedan also has a flatter roof, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

It’s hard to judge sizes by pictures alone, but the standard A6 measures 196.5 inches (4,999 mm) long with a wheelbase that spans 115.1 inches (2,927 mm). If it follows the A6 L e-tron playbook, it could gain an extra 5.2 inches (132 mm) between the wheels.
That would put the A6 L at 201.7 inches (5,123 mm) long, making it just 2.6 inches (67 mm) shorter than the base A8. However, the wheelbase would clock in at 120.3 inches (3,056 mm), which would be 2.3 inches (58 mm) more than the aging flagship.
While we probably shouldn’t read too much into those numbers, the car is a fairly typical A6 besides the extended length. As a result, it has familiar fascias with a wide grille and slender headlights. At the opposite end, there are boomerang-style taillights that are connected by a thin strip.

The interior should largely carryover as well and this means customers can expect a high-tech cabin with an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch infotainment system, and a 10.9-inch front passenger display.
Of course, rear seat passengers get all the attention and they’ll likely enjoy a few extra upgrades on top of the additional legroom.
Audi doesn’t appear to have released specifications for the new A6 in China, but the model rides on the Premium Platform Combustion and offers an assortment of engines in Europe.
This includes a turbocharged 2.0-liter TFSI with 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 251 lb-ft (340 Nm) of torque as well as a 2.0-liter TDI with 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm). Customers can also opt for a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 developing 362 hp (270 kW / 367 PS) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque.
There are also plug-in hybrid models that have a 2.0-liter TFSI engine, an electric motor, and a 25.9 kWh battery pack. This gives them outputs of 295 hp (220 kW / 299 PS) and 362 hp (270 kW / 367 PS). More importantly, they deliver up to 66 miles (106 km) of electric-only range.
