• Toyota is gearing up to introduce a facelifted Avalon in China.
  • Updated model borrows cues from the Camry and Crown.
  • Sedan will apparently offer both gas and hybrid powertrains.

Toyota phased out the Avalon in the United States after the 2022 model year, but the car continued to live on overseas. In fact, the sedan is getting an extensive facelift in China.

Quietly revealed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the model effectively blends elements from the Camry and rear-wheel drive Crown. As a result, the Avalon has a familiar front fascia with C-shaped lighting units and a large grille with vertical bars. They’re joined by vertical air curtains as well as an angular front bumper.

While the filing doesn’t show much of the side profile, it appears to carryover largely untouched. However, we can expect updated 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Bigger changes occur out back as there are new split taillights. The Avalon badging also moves from the light bar to the middle of the trunk. Likewise, the license plate recess has been relocated to the redesigned bumper.

According to the paperwork, there will be two versions that measure 196.5 inches (4,990 mm) and 199 inches (5,055 mm) long. Both are said to have a 150 hp (112 kW / 152 PS) engine, although one version has a hybrid powertrain and HEV badging, which is said to increase output to 184 hp (137 kW / 186 PS). This will apparently allow for a fuel consumption rating as low as 4.31 L/100km (54.6 mpg).
