Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has officially launched the updated 2026 Ora Good Cat and the sportier Good Cat GT, the two electric vehicle models arriving as scheduled following the announcement made last month that they would debut on this date. First up, the pricing, and the cars – which are CBU units from Thailand – go for:
- GWM Ora Good Cat Ultra – RM109,800
- GWM Ora Good Cat GT – RM119,800
This means the price of the Good Cat is now up to RM34k cheaper than before. In March 2024, the electric hatchback was given a RM26,000 discount across the range, with the 500 Ultra going for RM143,800 then. Incidentally, the 2024 price was already cheaper than when the car was first launched, when the 500 Ultra went for RM 169,800.
To mark the launch of the updated Good Cat range, GWM Malaysia is offering early bird buyers an additional RM3,000 rebate, with the offer applying to all registrations completed before December 31, 2025. This then brings the price of the Good Cat Ultra to RM106,800, while the Good Cat GT will go for RM116,800 during the promo period.
Let’s start with the base version. The 2026 model year Good Cat Ultra that goes on sale here isn’t the facelift that was revealed in China back in June, but the version that contains the minor updates brought about when the car made the switch to CKD local assembly in Thailand in January 2024.
As such, there are no external changes to the car, which made its Malaysian debut in November 2022, save for a new So Blue with a black roof colour option. The same standard equipment continues to feature, from the 18-inch five-spoke alloys (and 215/50 profile tyres) and intelligent LED headlamps and LED tail lamps to the adjustable side mirrors, automatic wipers and a panoramic sunroof.
The updates are under the skin and on the inside. For the latter, the cabin gets a new centre console that ditches the rotary gear selector in favour of a column-mounted stalk and a more accessible Qi wireless charging tray.
Otherwise, familiar items abound, including the seven-inch multi-info instrument display and 10.25-inch infotainment screen as well as leatherette upholstery. Also standard fit are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a six-speaker audio system, and the Good Cat also now comes with support for the My GWM app.
As before, a single electric motor producing 143 PS and 210 Nm of torque provides motive power via the front wheels, getting the car to a 150 km/h top speed. The major change comes with the battery, with the previous car’s 47.79 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and 63.14 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) options now consolidated into a single 57.7 kWh LFP pack, which is produced in Thailand by subsidiary Svolt.
This delivers a range of 480 km on the NEDC cycle, slightly down on the 500 km (420 km WLTP) offered by the previous NMC-powered 500 Ultra. In terms of DC charging, it takes about 54 minutes to get the unit from a 0-80% state-of-charge at the maximum rate of 60 kW, and about 38 minutes for a 30-80% SoC. As for AC charging, it takes around nine hours to juice up the battery at a rate of 6.6 kW.
Next, the Ora Good Cat GT. First unveiled back in 2021, it has taken a while to get here. As the suffix suggests, it’s presentation is sportier than the base Ultra, with a dedicated GT bodykit comprised of a more aggressively-styled front bumper, deeper side skirts, a diffuser-like rear valance and a larger tailgate spoiler, all in gloss black, leading the external visual changes.
This is further complemented by the inclusion of faux carbon fibre body cladding/wheel arch flares and 18-inch Y-spoke alloy wheels, with contrasting yellow highlights on the bumpers, spoiler, door mirror caps, wheels and brake calipers completing the look.
The interior continues on the sporty theme, with a black interior peppered with yellow contrast elements and suede leather upholstered bucket seats with integrated headrests making for the difference in presentation. The GT also comes with an electric hands-free tailgate.
The GT still features a single-motor powertrain, but output has been bumped up to 171 PS (126 kW) and 250 Nm, and increases of 28 PS (21 kW) and 40 Nm over the Good Cat Ultra. Top speed remains 150 km/h. It has the same 57.7 kWh LFP pack, and this is good for a 380 km WLTP-rated range (460 km, NEDC). Charging rates and times are the same as the standard Good Cat.
In terms of tech and safety equipment, both Good Cat models feature a Level 2 ADAS suite, with AEB, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane keeping/changing assist and rear cross traffic alert among the comprehensive mix, and there’s also a transparent chassis and 360-degree camera system in there.
As for exterior colours, the Good Cat Ultra is available in Hazel Wood Beige with brown roof and Pistachio Green in addition to the new So Blue with the black roof. Opting for the latter also gets the 18-inch five-spoke alloys presented in gloss black, complete with the calipers finished in yellow.
Buyers also get different interior schemes, depending on the variant – a green/rice for the Pistachio Green, a brown/rice for the Hazel Wood Beige and a green/grey for the So Blue.
Meanwhile, the Good Car GT comes with two exclusive colour options, Aqua Grey and Sun Black, with the black/yellow interior as standard for both. Both the Ora Good Cat Ultra and Good Cat GT are covered by a six-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year/180,000 km battery warranty.
