- An M-tuned BMW iX3 prototype was caught testing with an aggressive bodykit.
- Lowered suspension, larger wheels and beefier brakes hint at its performance.
- It could debut next year with a dual-motor setup likely packing over 600 hp.
BMW is pleased with the market response to the Neue Klasse iX3 and continues developing new variants for its latest electric SUV. Naturally, at least one of them will be pushed toward the sporty end of the spectrum, benefiting from engineering and design input from the usual suspects in the M division.
Our spy photographers caught a prototype of the performance SUV on public roads near the Nurburgring. Compared to earlier sightings, the M-badged iX3 appears to have evolved, wearing many production-ready components.

The front bumper adopts a more aggressive design compared to the optional M Sport Package already offered for the iX3, without going over the top. Fresh camo patches on the hood might conceal new vents, with the slightly chunkier side skirts, the subtle fender flares and a new set of five-spoke alloy wheels enhancing the sporty looks.

Finally, the tail misses out on the optional spoiler extension that was showcased at the IAA Mobility show in Munich, but gets stronger contours on the rear bumper, leading to a redesigned diffuser with a central opening.
Beyond the visual tweaks, the SUV will also benefit from a sharper chassis setup for improved handling. The camouflaged prototype appears to ride on a lowered suspension and features larger perforated disc brakes.

The sportiest iX3 yet is expected to wear the M60 emblem and could arrive next year. It should be fitted with dual electric motors producing more than the 463 hp (345 kW / 469 PS) of the iX3 50 xDrive, potentially taking it well into 600 horsepower territory.
While this M Performance version of the iX3 might outperform the discontinued ICE-powered X3 M with the twin-turbo V8, BMW could go even further with a more hardcore offering. A full-blown iX3 M might join the lineup later on, elevating the SUV to supercar-levels of performance by utilizing the upcoming i3 M sedan’s quad-motor powertrain.
